Dr. Amy Carwile
As The Navigator’s final issue of Spring 2012 is being completed, I want to say thank you to two very special students – Laura Sanchez, Editor and Justin Hubbart, Web Designer. Without their help, The Navigator would be just one of the things still undone on my “to do list.” Both of these students are graduating on May 19, and I am both pleased and sad for that day. Pleased for them to have realized their accomplishment of a college education, and sad because I will miss seeing them around campus.
Laura transferred to TAMUT from Cossatot Community College in DeQueen and has been an integral part of the Mass Communication program since her arrival two years ago. She has outstanding leadership and organizational skills. She recruited writers, photographers, videographers, copy editors for The Navigator throughout the semester. She spearheaded meetings and made sure that copy made it to our Web Designer in time to publish The Navigator. Laura will be an Honors graduate earning a BS in Mass Communication and plans to enter the workforce.
Justin came to TAMUT last year from West Texas A&M in Canyon. He participated in the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association convention in 2011 and was instrumental in forming the Skydiving Club. The Navigator’s web design and story layout are Justin’s handiwork. He is never quite satisfied with what he produces because he is a perfectionist, but The Navigator is just a small example of his unlimited talents and skills. Another Mass Communication student, Justin will earn a Bachelor of Science degree and plans to enter graduate school this fall.
If you happen to encounter either of these two fine young people in the next few days as they wind down their undergraduate careers, please express your gratitude to them for their extraordinary work and effort this semester as heads of The Navigator staff. The Navigator would not be in production without their help, direction or skills. Laura Sanchez and Justin Hubbart have been two of the highlights of this year for me as an advisor for The Navigator. I am proud to have been able to work beside them this year and wish them great success as they embark upon the next phase of their lives.
